Impact of Adding Favipiravir to Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin Treatment on QTc Interval in COVID-19

Objective: The Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused the death of many people worldwide. Treatment protocol had to be developed as soon possible so drug combinations, whose reliability not been fully disclosed, have started used. In this study, we aimed evaluate effect azithromycin (AZT), hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), and favipiravir (FVR) combination on corrected QT (QTc) interval. Material Methods: Eighty-four consecutive COVID 19 patients were enrolled in study. All received AZT HCQ, however, FVR was added 32 with severe pneumonia at beginning. ECG characteristics all before treatment fifth day compared. Results: There no significant difference between HCQ+AZT group (n=52) HCQ+AZT+FVR groups (n=32) terms baseline clinical characteristics. QTc interval significantly prolonged (413,75±30,13; 440,27±36,11 p 500 ms detected after treatment, four three group. Conclusion: We observed that more prolongation when used HCQ+AZT. recommend who receive monitored closely for QTc.
